Position
Description:

To lead Phoenix Bikes, a dynamic after-school education program
in Arlington, Virginia and off-site programs in DC metro area.
Responsibilities include supervising staff, youth program
members, and volunteers of all ages; implementing, strengthening
and developing new youth programs’ spearheading fundraising;
coordinating outreach efforts; and overseeing healthy fiscal
operations.

Responsibilities

Program
Implementation:

Oversees an innovative and creative education program for middle-
and high school age youth. Leads and supervises hands-on
learning sessions that builds practical and social entrepreneurial
skills for youth. Works to increase numbers of youth who
participate in program. Works to strengthen, adapt and implement
new curriculum to meet the needs of youth. Ensures that accurate
records are maintained to track individual youth progress and
program metrics overall. Presents program metrics to Board.

Fiscal Management: Works closely with Board and staff to ensure that Phoenix Bikes is
fiscally sound. Ensures that all financial operations, including
income and expense activities are tracked and recorded accurately
and in a timely manner in financial management systems. Present
budgets and financial reports to Board finance committee.

Fundraising:

Oversees all aspects of fundraising. Plans and participates in
fundraising to grow the donor base (individual, foundation,
business/corporate) via mail, online, phone and in person
solicitation and cultivation. Leads effort to raise funds from
institutional and family foundations, including grant writing.
Working closely with the Board to help execute fundraising
events. Ensures that donor records are accurate and maintained in
fundraising software. Ensures that donors’ gifts are acknowledged
in a timely manner and donors are communicated with on a regular
basis to maintain relationship with Phoenix Bikes. Presents
fundraising reports to Board.

Outreach and
Marketing:

Works to raise the visibility of Phoenix Bikes and its youth
programming through outreach events, online marketing, and
media. Develops and maintains an outreach strategy to recruit and
retain youth and adult volunteers. Works to increase number of
bikes donated and community members/bike patrons using the
bike shop. Develops relationships with government officials,
educators, business leaders, civic organizations etc. in order to
strengthen Phoenix Bikes. Ensures that the Phoenix Bikes website
and social media are kept up-to-date and active with upcoming
activities and success stories. Presents volunteer metrics to the
Board.

Operations and
Personnel:

Recruits, manages and motivates a strong staff. Prepares for and
helps lead anticipated growth of Phoenix Bikes due to the capital
campaign taking place for a new building. Ensures that the youth
bike shop is safe, clean and well-organized for youth, volunteers
and patrons.
Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

·Significant experience working with youth and youth programs,
including development of curricula and activity plans.
·Management and leadership experience
·Professional fundraising experience, including grant writing
· Knowledge of Social Entrepreneurialism
·Bachelor’s degree
·Experience with bike repair preferred
·Knowledge of Spanish or Amharic preferred

Phoenix Bikes empowers youth in an after-school education program. Youth participate
at the nonprofit bike shop currently located in Barcroft Park near the Four Mile Run bike
trail. Youth learn in a creative, supportive, educational environment within the context of

repair donated used bikes and parts for sale, at affordable prices, and to provide services

"I like to think that I bring a love of art and science to the shop and to the mentoring environment. Many people are interested in bikes for their own reasons; my teaching objective is to show the increasing interconnectedness of the bicycle in all aspects of our lives.
"In my spare time I do a lot of reading, running, yoga, sewing, and graphic design.
"I really do love every food. I'm a vegetarian, but am often tempted around anything resembling snacks."

Having lived past lives as a personal trainer, ropes course facilitator, adventure travel guide, WEMT, and avid cyclist (to name a few) it seemed only logical that Edoardo join in the monumental-momentum-movement that is Phoenix Bikes. He has relocated from San Francisco, CA to be a part of Phoenix family.
