Volunteer

Make an impact

Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering! We’re a small, busy team, and we couldn’t do the work we do without our amazing volunteers.

Volunteers help with cleaning bikes, fixing bikes, planning events, leading Saturday morning youth rides, helping with after school bike clubs, and everything in between.

We’ve been thrilled to welcome so many new volunteers into our community recently! However, we are currently working hard to train our existing adult volunteers and are not currently accepting new volunteers. Please check back in May, 2024, and feel free to email contact@phoenixbikes.org with any questions.

Ways to volunteer

Wrench in the Shop

For shop volunteers, Phoenix offers after-work opportunities, where volunteers work on bikes that will be put up for sale or donated to community members in need.

New to mechanics? No worries! All of our volunteers receive basic bike maintenance training at our Tuesday Volunteer Nights.

Work with Youth

We have opportunities for volunteers to lead Saturday group rides, coach our junior race team, or assist with mechanics classes for youth. Ride volunteering is on Saturdays, coaching takes place after school and on weekends, and mechanics classes are on weekday afternoons after school, Saturdays, and summer daytime hours.

We typically ask volunteers to help in a more general role before being considered for working directly with youth.

Join the Board

Our fantastic Board of Directors works hard behind the scenes to ensure Phoenix is resourced, growing in smart ways and staying on mission. If you’re a seasoned professional looking to have an impact in the community, you may want to consider service on our board or one of our board committees.

Board meetings are typically Wednesday evenings, and committee meetings vary, but are typically on weekday evenings.

Help Plan an Event

Volunteers who want to help with our community events are always welcome! We typically plan a spring gala, a summer century peer-to-peer fundraiser, and a fall community ride.

From sending out flyers to staging cycling safety scenarios, there are plenty of ways to contribute. Event planning time commitments range widely depending on role.

How to Volunteer

Schedules:

Because we serve youth, our biggest volunteer needs are during after-school hours, Saturday mornings, and school breaks.

We have opportunities for volunteers to help us wrench in the shop, including being a helping hand to keep shop operations running smoothly. These opportunities are typically during business hours which are currently Tuesday-Friday, 10:30 am-6 pm; Saturday, 10:30 am-4 pm.

Training:

While there are many ways to volunteer at Phoenix without prior training, if you are specifically seeking to volunteer as an instructor, ride leader or service technician, you are invited to receive bike mechanics and/or youth instruction training. Please note that this training that may range from 3-10 hours.

We will try out best to match all volunteers with the opportunities we have available. We are a small team, and appreciate your patience and feedback.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email contact@phoenixbikes.org.

If you’re a youth that has already completed Earn-a-Bike and are interested in volunteering, please email contact@phoenixbikes.org.
